In creating our next book, Change The way You See Everything - For teens, Kathy and I have become inspired and energized by the awesome power and potential of youth. Also, our work with teachers, educators and advocates has heightened our recognition and commitment to the importance of reading in their development. That’s one of the reasons we had teens help us create the book. We also did all we could to make the book an exciting and inspiring read for teens.
As I’ve mentioned in other posts, our friend James Patterson launched a website for the expressed purpose of instilling a passion for reading in youth…ReadKiddoRead. I’m also an admirer of Seth Godin…he’s a smart, savvy, innovative thinker. So, when I read a great blog by Seth Godin titled, What’s school For?, I immediately posted it to my blog on ReadKiddoRead. Seth lists 27 reasons for school. Number 2 is the opportunity to develop a passion and love for reading. Here’s a great quote I read that puts this in perspective.
“Education has produced a vast population able to read but unable to distinguish what is worth reading.” G.M. Trevelyan.
The other 26 reasons for school that Seth lists are pretty cool too. We hope our book will in some way bring all 27 to life and help inspire and motivate youth to read, think Big and do Big things with their lives.
