James Patterson is an Asset Based Thinker. He’s a friend and a very talented, highly successful author who has inspired me with his Mighty Cause. Jim is an outspoken advocate for instilling the passion for reading in kids and teens. As you may know, Jim was kind enough to write the foreword for our first book, Change The Way You See Everything and he’s also written the foreword for our next book, Change The Way You See Everything For TEENS. (In bookstores April 09) Here’s an excerpt from Jim”s foreword that sums up his passion.
Here’s the advice I’ve given my son Jack. READ. Become a passionate reader for life, and not because you have to or because it might make you more successful. I’m talking about real passion here! Like the way you currently go crazy over The Simpsons or The Incredibles and Playstation. It’s true that books can make you crazy, but in a good way. Read because you love to, not because you have to, and books will bring you happiness every day of your life.
Jim found a great way to turn his advocacy into action. With help from “First Book” and acclaimed children’s literature expert Judy Freeman, Jim started ReadKiddoRead.com . It’s a web site designed to help parents, teachers, and librarians ignite the next generation’s excitement about reading by recommending books carefully chosen for their ability to make kids’ mouths water… books kids can really sink their teeth into.
I highly recommend that you visit ReadKiddoRead.com and get involved. I’ve joined the Grandparents group and have started buying books for my grandson Lucas. My first selection is Jim’s bestseller Maximum Ride
Enjoy yourself and join Jim in his Mighty Cause.

Hank, I’ve been wanting to do a piece on James Patterson for quite some time, and was saving it for our ‘positive picks’ next month for BOYS…(it’s ‘All Things Girl’ week on Shaping Youth right now, but I’m dying to hear about any other recos you can forward along those lines!)
ABT is a smart way of viewing most EVERYthing and I applaud your efforts multifold…anxious to carry forth the conversation and can’t wait for your teen book!
